In April 2025, in Berlin, the Gatsby bottle was awarded an iF Gold Award in the Packaging Design discipline. Gold is the top tier of the iF Design Awards and goes to roughly the top one percent of entries. The jury was not tasting anything. They were judging an object.
A Design Born in 1920s New York
The 1920s were a decade of nerve and ambition. Skylines rose, jazz filled the rooms, and a new visual language swept from Paris to Manhattan. That language was Art Deco: clean geometry, confident symmetry, sunbursts and stepped forms, the marriage of luxury and machine-age precision.
Nowhere did it speak more clearly than in New York. The Chrysler Building, with its gleaming crown of radiating arches, became the movement's crown jewel and a symbol of what American craft could reach for when it aimed high. That spirit, elegant, optimistic and quietly audacious, is the spirit the bottle was built to hold.
The Bottle as a Piece of Architecture
The bottle was drawn by Series Nemo, a design studio in Barcelona, for Gatsby Distilling Co. The brief was structure, not decoration. The stepped silhouette echoes the setbacks of Art Deco towers. The lines are deliberate, the proportions balanced, the presence unmistakable. It took up to two years of development before the first bottle shipped in 2023.
The result is an object built to earn the line it carries: Art Deco Spirit. American Soul.
What an iF Gold Award Actually Is
The iF Design Award has run since 1953 and is one of the longest-standing design prizes in the world. Thousands of entries are submitted each year across disciplines from architecture to packaging, and an international jury of designers assesses them.
Most successful entries receive an iF Design Award. A small fraction receive iF Gold, which is the distinction reserved for the entries the jury considers outstanding rather than merely excellent.
The Gatsby bottle received Gold. The jury's own statement reads:
This architectural bottle design for House of Gatsby spirits gracefully brings the glamour and festive essence of Art Deco to life. Like the fictional character it's named for, this design is timeless and enigmatic.
Winning in Berlin meant a great deal, because Europe is where the House of Gatsby story began. The Art Deco design and the botanical profile captivated Europe first, and the iF Gold Award turned an instinct into international acknowledgement.
A Second Jury: Double Gold at ADI 2026
In 2026 the same bottle took a Double Gold Medal for Excellence in Packaging, Bottle Design at the ADI International Spirits Competition, judged this time not by designers but by people who work in spirits. Two entirely different sets of criteria, two juries with nothing in common, one bottle.
A design award is one room's opinion. Two rooms is a pattern.
That is the useful part. A design prize says the object is beautiful. A spirits industry prize says the object works where it has to work, which is on a shelf, next to competitors, in the two seconds before someone decides.
What a Premium Gin Bottle Is Actually For
A premium gin bottle does three jobs, and none of them are decoration.
It has to survive a back bar without looking tired. It has to be legible at distance, so a bartender reaches for it without reading the label. And it has to be worth keeping once it is empty, because a bottle that gets thrown away was only ever packaging, while a bottle that stays on the shelf keeps working.
That last one is why the Gatsby bottle was designed as an object rather than a container, and it is why it tends to end up as a gift. A bottle of gin is consumed. A bottle that looks like a piece of 1920s architecture gets kept, and the person who gave it stays in the room.
Inside it is a gin that has been judged on its own terms, separately: nine organic botanicals at 44.8% ABV, with a Silver Medal in the Ultra-Premium category at The Gin Masters 2026 decided blind, with the bottle nowhere in sight. The nine botanicals are the reason it survived that room.
Outside and inside, held to the same standard.
Questions About the Gatsby Bottle
What is an iF Gold Award?
The iF Design Award has run since 1953 and is judged by an international jury of designers. iF Gold is its top distinction, awarded to a small fraction of entries. The Gatsby bottle received an iF Gold Award in 2025 in the Packaging Design discipline.
Who designed the Gatsby bottle?
The bottle was designed by Series Nemo, a design studio based in Barcelona, for Gatsby Distilling Co. It took up to two years of development and launched in 2023.
What makes Gatsby a premium gin?
Gatsby Gin is distilled in the United States with nine organic botanicals at 44.8% ABV, ninety proof. It holds a Silver Medal in the Ultra-Premium category at The Gin Masters 2026 and a Silver Medal in Classic Gin at the 2026 ADI International Spirits Competition, both decided by blind tasting panels.
Is Gatsby Gin a good gift?
The bottle was designed to be kept rather than discarded, which is what makes it work as a gift. It holds an iF Gold Award 2025 and a Double Gold for bottle design at the 2026 ADI International Spirits Competition, so the object does as much work as the gin inside it.
Art Deco was never only about surfaces. It was about the belief that everyday objects deserve beauty and intention. The Gatsby bottle carries that belief forward.
It's not a Gin. It's a Gatsby.
